Evaluation of the Perspective of ERA-Interim and ERA5 Reanalyses for Calculation of Drought Indicators for Uzbekistan

The arid and semiarid regions of Uzbekistan are sensitive vulnerable to climate change. However, the sparse very unevenly distributed meteorological stations within region provide limited data for studying region’s variation. aim this work was evaluate performance European Centre Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) Re-Analysis (ERA)-Interim ERA5 products fields near-surface temperature, humidity, precipitation over from 1981 2018 using observations 74 stations. Major results suggested that reanalysis datasets match well with most observed records, especially in plain areas. While ERA5, a high spatial resolution 0.1°, is able more accurately reproduce mountain ranges valleys. Compared ERA-Interim, climatological biases total clearly reduced, representation inter-annual variability improved Uzbekistan. Both reanalyses show level agreement on standardized evaporation index (SPEI) correlation coefficient 0.7–0.8.Although both these ECMWF can be successfully implemented calculation atmospheric drought indicators adjacent Central Asia, newer advanced preferred.
